OCA GLOBAL leads first audits for the new Livestock Animal Welfare Transport (LAWT) standard
At OCA GLOBAL, we are proud to have carried out the very first audits for the Livestock Animal Welfare Transport (LAWT) benchmark, recently presented at the European Conference on the Transport of Live Animals.
Until now, animal welfare certification focused on farms and slaughterhouses. This new certification expands the scope to cover the animal’s entire life cycle including a critical phase: transportation.
What does this certification provide?
- Independent verification of animal welfare compliance during transport
- Aimed at live animal transport companies, but designed to impact the entire food chain through traceability audits
- Initially implemented in the pig sector, with plans to expand to cattle, poultry, and other species
Audits focus on:
- Vehicle conditions and staff training
- Journey records
- Loading and unloading processes
This is a key initiative to ensure transparency, accountability, and traceability across the food supply chain. At OCA GLOBAL, we remain committed to continuous improvement and animal welfare.
